Bottles

I would like some advice or suggestions about bottles. Neither of my two children have ever once taken a bottle. Yes, you heard right. This time around I am determined to have my baby take a bottle once a week or so after he is a few weeks old. This will give Trent the opportunity to feed him sometimes, give me the chance to leave the baby occasionally, and allow me to take a bottle to church or other public places where it may not be the most convenient to nurse. Anyhow, I know there are a lot of choices when it comes to bottles. I also know that mothers have very strong opinions about these things, so what do you say. What kind of bottle do you like best, which do you dislike? Avent, Dr. Brown, Gerber Nuk, Soothie, Playtex? Do you like using disposable liners? I think different babies may like different bottles, so I may just have to try some different ones out, however I would still like everyone's input and advice if you have it. Thanks.

I'll send you a couple Dr. Brown's... and for heaven's sake... get that baby on a bottle in the first 2 weeks this time! Good luck! I love you!

Hannah liked playtex best, I used the disposable. I had a few other bottles such as an avent & a gerber & she never cared for either of those. But I have a friend who nursed who said her babies would only take avent & another who said her would only use Dr. Brown. I know the nipple makes all the difference & I think what ever nipple is closest to yours would be easiest for your child.
My favorite pediatrician told me that the sooner you introduce the better (despite what the LLL says) & by a week old she was nursing like a champ so I introduced the bottle. I have a friend that waited a 3 or 4 weeks with her first & he never took the bottle & with her 2nd she started at 10 days & he did great. So who knows if any of this is fact & how much is luck & the kid. But I wish you good luck!! Being able to give a bottle really is quite nice & relieves some stress when going out.

i used gerber vented with gracie and i'm using the same with gus. i think they like it because the nipple is short and the base is wide, like a breast. i would have to show you the bottles for you to know what i'm talking about because i don't know what the real name is. but if you go to that baby, mommy, & more store, they recommend dr. brown or anything with a flow vent system. it's worked best for me and i've only ever bottle fed, except for the first couple weeks. my babies don't like my boobs. call if you have any other questions.

As you know, I like the soothies. Moqui never had a problem with bubbles and gas with those bottles. All of the disposable stuff got old after a while. As far as nipples, I always thought that she enjoyed the soothie nipples because of the wide base, I guess I imagined it was easier on her mouth to have that support and that it was more like a her face against my breast. That's my two cents.

I used just the generic type nipple that are on the bottles at the hospital- they fit on tons of cute bottles. I've never had overly gassy babies or anything. I think they are Gerber- but not NUK.

Well, Steven had playtex disposables; AJ hated them, but he took the generic type nipples that Tori talked about. Avent wasn't around for him. Kim like nursing, but would take the nuk nipples (I think it's because that is the binky we gave her.) Shelby had a mam binky and would only accept and Avent nipple. She hated all others. The babies with bottles all started with a bottle nipple within the first two weeks, so I could shower at least once in a while!

I got some of those Gerber vented bottles for Sophie, but I thought all the extra parts were too much of a hassle for how seldom I used them, so I got rid of them and I just stick with Avent. I like them cause they're simple.

i dont think the bottle really matters, my mom ytold me that you try to get a bottle nipple that matches your nipple shape as closely as possible

I too use Avent, but like Diana said, ours do leak sometimes-I am not sure if it is just because we go fast and don't screw it on all the way-Good luck

Jonah "liked" the generic nipples at first (I think I started after 2 weeks), he never drinks as much as he should when it comes from a bottle so he's hungrier again a little sooner. Right now he "likes" the beginners sippy nipple on a wide bottle I believe called Nuby. He hasn't ever really gotten into pacifiers and that's fine with me, but he did great at the airport with one yesterday.

You've got "good mail" real soon.

Love the song on here! It's been a long time since I've heard it!

I MISS YOU!

Dr. Browns have been awesome for Ashlyn since she was 4 weeks, she only gets a few a month so it's not a hassel cleaning the "extra" parts to keep the air bubbles out. I have a few if you want to try them out when baby boy arrives.
wee missed you at Lake Powell!
